School Experience Programme

Importance of School Experience

It is essential to get some school experience before you apply for Initial Teacher Training because:

  • Teaching may not be what you expect. By coming in to one of our schools and spending time observing lessons and speaking to teachers, you will get a real flavour of what it is like to teach in a secondary school today.
  • In your Personal Statement, we are looking for a real passion for teaching. After your school experience you will be able to reflect on what you have seen in the classroom and tell us why this has reinforced your desire to teach.
  • As part of the interview process, you will be required to teach part of a lesson. This is much less daunting if you have observed lessons.

How do I get School Experience

Ask at your local school or we can assist you with school experience at one of the schools within our partnership. Please note that we can usually only accommodate one day of school experience per person. If you would like to come in to one of our schools and observe lessons in your chosen subject for a day, please contact:

Joanne Hawkins on jhawkins@salesian.surrey.sch.uk or Claire Brown on c.brown@sjb.surrey.sch.uk

If you would like to get in touch, please fill out the form on the Contact Us page.
