Whatever your journey, we will be there to support you at every stage of your career. We are well placed as a regional provider, with expertise in both phases and across our wider Trust and Teaching School Hub, to ensure we can provide bespoke and personalised support to suit your needs. WHAT WE OFFER “The training programme has cemented exceptional relationships with partner schools.” Ofsted 2023

INTERNSHIPS At Xavier Teach SouthEast, we are proud to offer an internship programme which provides those interested in teaching with the ideal opportunity to explore life in the classroom. NON FUNDED AND FUNDED INTERNSHIPS We offer a three-week internship programme which incorporates a paid scheme for secondary maths, chemistry, computing, physics and MFL undergraduates (£400 pw) and an unpaid scheme for all other secondary subjects and primary teaching. Our aim is to help undergraduates in all subjects, as well as those considering a career change, to explore how rewarding a career in teaching can be. As part of the programme, you will have the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of school life, including: • Taking part in a bespoke training programme with other interns • Working closely with a mentor in a placement school to observe and teach lessons • The chance to meet with ECTs (Early Career Teachers) and SCITT (School-centred Initial Teacher Training) trainees to get their perspective on the realities of teacher training WHY DO IT? • To gain a true understanding of what a career in teaching involves • To receive high quality training from outstanding teachers in outstanding schools • To meet other interns in a similar position to you • To accelerate your interview process for a place on one of our Initial Teacher Training programmes • To gain valuable and unique work experience for whatever you go on to do in the future, as well as a formal written reference from your mentor “The internship was a brilliant hands-on experience that gave me a wealth of knowledge about life as a primary school teacher. The programme gave me the best opportunity to gain first-hand experience teaching, observing and helping to plan lessons.” Intern 2023

ROUTES INTO TEACHING The following routes into teaching for both primary and secondary all result in Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with the option to undertake the academic award of a PGCE. All of our full-time* programmes are structured on an academic year with trainees spending four days a week in school, and one day a week attending centralised training. You will receive a comprehensive induction consisting of a day in July with a chance to visit your placement school and two days in August before starting the programme in September. *All our programmes can be adapted to be completed on a parttime basis. TUITION FEE ROUTE This programme allows trainee teachers to work towards QTS whilst undertaking the role of a teacher in a school environment and being immersed in school life for the duration of the programme. We highly recommend all Tuition Fee trainees complete a PGCE (through our partnership with the University of Sussex) alongside their QTS as they are complementary and designed to underpin your practice in the classroom, providing strength and breadth to your understanding. However, should you have exceptional circumstances where a PGCE is not the most appropriate option for your context, we do offer a QTS only option. Fees for the programme PGCE and QTS £9,535 QTS only £8,196 Part-time PGCE and QTS £14,290 Part-time QTS only £11,268 Some training routes are eligible for government bursaries, please check our website for the most up-to-date details. SALARIED ROUTE As a salaried trainee you are employed by your placement school and receive a salary (unqualified 1 on teacher’s pay scale) whilst working towards gaining QTS. Salaried trainees do not naturally undertake the PGCE because of the additional responsibilities they undertake as part of the programme, however for those who are particularly interested, this can be an option. This route is available for both primary and secondary teaching and is competitive and subject to school availability. It is often most suitable for a trainee already working in or who has an existing relationship with a school or significant relevant experience. Fees for the programme QTS only £8,196 (fee payable by placement school and/or salaried trainee as dependent on circumstances). “Teach South East are so easy to work with; they offer a great programme that puts trust in us as a school to know our own staff and support us fully to get the best outcomes.” The Green Room School, Windsor

The Teacher Apprenticeshipwas launched in September 2018 and this gives schools an opportunity to use apprenticeship funding (the apprenticeship levy) for training. Apprentice teachers will have to meet the same statutory requirements for entry as all other ITT programmes and will be assessed against the Teachers’ Standards through the Xavier Teach SouthEast curriculum. Being an apprentice (similarly to a salaried trainee) means that you are employed by your placement school and receive a salary (unqualified 1) whilst working towards gaining QTS. This route is available for both primary and secondary teaching and is competitive and subject to school availability. It is often most suitable for a trainee with significant school-based relevant experience. On successful completion of the course, apprentices will also complete an endpoint assessment (EPA) in the term after completion of QTS Fees for the programme QTS only £9000 (covered by the school levy) APPRENTICESHIPS If you choose to do the PGCE you will engage with two modules, the first of which is Applying Professional Knowledge (APK), where you will complete an evaluative essay reflecting on the impact of pedagogy on professional practice. The second module will require a professional discussion at the end of your QTS programme called Reflecting on Professional Knowledge (RPK). You will receive individualised support from a university supervisor and a series of group seminars built into our General Professional Studies programme, delivered in our centralised training facilities. Non PGCE If you choose not to embark on the PGCE, you will complete a mini research project allowing you the opportunity to reflect on the impact of research on professional practice. To teach in England, you are required to have QTS, the PGCE is not a mandatory qualification. We advise you to speak to one of our team if you are unsure about whether or not to undertake the PGCE; it is a decision you will need to make before accepting an offer of a place with us. PGCE

The four-year programme supports colleagues to study for a degree (BA Hons in Secondary Mathematics Education with QTS) whilst working within and being employed by a school. Structure of the course: Year 1: 2 days in university 1 day school-based training (remote) 2 days Professional Practice (in-school) Year 2: 2 days in university 1 day in school-based training (remote) 2 days Professional Practice (in-school) Year 3: 1 day in university 1 day school-based training 3 days Professional Practice (in-school) Year 4: ½ day in university ½ day school-based training 4 days Professional Practice (in-school) All apprentices will be required to independently fund and arrange their travel to the University of Sussex on a weekly basis. There is a two stage interview for this course and further information can be obtained by filling out the contact form on our website. A Maths A Level is preferred but other circumstances will be considered. TEACHER DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP (TDA)

Joining Xavier Teach SouthEast has been one of the best career choices I have ever made. I would say that one of my favourite aspects of this has been the level of pastoral care that XTSE provides for its trainees. I have felt supported and listened to at every stage of my development. My pastoral coach is always approachable and available and has made my teaching journey that much easier. XTSE provides us with regular training sessions every Friday. It is clear from the way these sessions are delivered that the pedagogy is world class and that the training providers are experts in their field. They have a wealth of experience amongst them and that is very clear from the training they are able to offer. I have particularly enjoyed the sessions on behaviour management in Secondary Schools. I was a supply teacher before I joined Xavier Teach SouthEast and one of the things that I was missing was a rigorous understanding of how to engage pupils in such a way that different forms of behavioural issues didn’t present themselves. The XTSE training has been vital in my understanding of this. ADAM MILLS, SECONDARY RE TRAINEE As a salaried SCITT trainee with Xavier Teach SouthEast, it is safe to say I was more than slightly nervous when it came to teaching classes in my first week at my home placement. XTSE however, have been incredibly supportive and motivating with this throughout my training. The cutting edge training that’s provided ensures I am fully equipped to deal with all elements of teaching, often revisiting and reinforcing different sections of the curriculum to develop our pedagogical skills. I have never felt so supported in both home and away placements due to their pastoral network, and feel I could speak to any of the XTSE training staff about any issues I am having. The highlights of the training for me have been the weekly training sessions in which we as trainees can really collaborate, share and feedback on the knowledge we have gained from our previous session. I think the regularity of this ensures we are given the best possible training and ability to reflect effectively. I highly recommend Xavier Teach SouthEast as a training provider and I have always felt valued as a future teacher. JACK NELSON, SECONDARY ENGLISH TRAINEE WHAT OUR TRAINEES SAY ABOUT US

Training with Xavier Teach SouthEast has been both an enjoyable and inspiring experience - every single member of staff is (extremely) organised, punctual, welcoming, kind, and so evidently passionate about education and what they do. Everything is made super easy because GPS, subject hub and my weekly SCITT training sessions - both at my home and away schools - are directly linked, allowing me to fully understand a topic/ matter on a professional, pastoral and where appropriate, mathematical level. This has helped me to feel more confident and flourish at teaching with each new day. Training to be a teacher is a beautiful rollercoaster; XTSE, whether you have a super high or (the occasional small) low, are always, always there, whether it be to celebrate with or support you. AMY SMURTHWAITE, SECONDARY MATHS TRAINEE A real strength of the Xavier Teach SouthEast programme of study is the practical, hands-on nature of the course. Being a SCITT, with the majority of trainee time spent in the classroom, there is real opportunity to pick up practical tips, tricks and skills from experienced teachers. These staff are an essential part of the SCITT scheme, and the guidance and expertise they provide is invaluable. The team’s personalities, passions and support have made a massive difference over the year for me personally. TOM CASTELL, PRIMARY TRAINEE I have really enjoyed my training with Xavier Teach SouthEast. I particularly like how we are on placement four days a week and then at training one day a week. This has allowed me to instantly incorporate what I have read, observed and learnt into my own lessons. This high-quality training has allowed me to grow in confidence and helped me to constantly reflect on my practice so I can improve further. My home school mentor was incredible due to his constant support, advice and willingness to help me. I particularly enjoyed our weekly mentor meetings, as it was a nice confidence boost to read his complimentary comments and discuss areas for development. He made my transition from working as a teaching assistant to becoming a teacher trainee a lot easier. The training team have been very supportive when I have needed assistance. Their friendly and kind nature make the training sessions enjoyable. I have particularly enjoyed the subject specific training days and have gained some valuable ideas for my lessons.
