Xavier Teach Southeast

Teach SouthEast are committed to protecting and enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of Trainees. Teach SouthEast fully adheres to the Education Staff Wellbeing Charter from the Department for Education, and the full outline of how this is done can be seen in the Teach SouthEast Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy which can be accessed via the Xavier CET website.

We are proud to be the first initial teacher education provider to be awarded the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in schools 'ITE Partnership Mental Health Award' - Silver status and are thrilled to be recognised for our ongoing and relentless commitment to trainee and staff well-being.

We know that to be a successful teacher who thrives in the profession, resilience is an essential quality and must be nurtured; we also have responsibility to foster this within the students we teach. To ensure you, and therefore the students you teach, are well looked after for the duration of the course, each trainee has a dedicated Pastoral Lead who will support you in terms of mental health and well-being. In addition, will also be assigned a Pastoral Coach who is someone from the Teach SouthEast centralised team. You will meet with your coach in the Autumn and Spring term, but you are also able to have additional meetings where desired. You should use this as an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have; how to establish a positive work/life balance; and build resilience as a teacher.

To further support trainees, we have access to a counsellor whose services we use for those who find it beneficial.
